Apple's 30th Anniversary

Posted on Apr 4, 2006

It has been 30 years since Apple was founded on 1 April 1976 (1976–2006). That is a longer history than I expected, compared to Microsoft.

Apple is a computer manufacturer and Microsoft is a software company. The two companies have helped each other and also have a competitive relationship. They develop different operating systems, but Microsoft also develops software for the Mac.

It is interesting that the first version of MS Excel was for the Mac, and that Internet Explorer was the official web browser of the Mac before Safari was released. But now the two companies compete more than before. Apple is also developing office software.

Over the past decade, Apple had to struggle to survive, so Steve Jobs could return with his company NeXT and write a successful story with Mac OS X and the iMac series. You could say that Apple is at a turning point thanks to the success of the iPod and the iTunes Music Store. As a result, Apple is not only a computer manufacturer but also a consumer electronics maker and content provider. I expect that Apple will lead the technology of the computer and consumer electronics areas in terms of innovation, and make the computing environment easier and more comfortable.
